Flying with children: how to book a family airport transfer with child seats
Which seat for which age, how to request it, how much space a family really needs and why a minivan is usually the better choice than two taxis.
Travelling with children turns a simple airport ride into logistics: seats, a stroller, more luggage than adults ever carry and a schedule set by nap times rather than by flight times. A private transfer solves most of it before you land, if you book it right. Here is how.
Which seat for which age
Rules differ by country, but the practical categories are the same everywhere:
- Infant seat (rear-facing) for babies up to roughly 12-15 months.
- Toddler seat (forward-facing with harness) for children up to about four years.
- Booster seat for older children until they reach the height at which the adult belt fits correctly, usually around 135-150 cm depending on the country.
Tell us the age, and ideally the weight and height, of each child when you book. We match the seat to the child and to the local law, so you do not have to.
How to request seats
Write it in the notes of the booking, one line per child: "boy, 3 years, 15 kg" is perfect. Our team confirms the seats with the driver before the pick-up. Seats are fitted in the vehicle before the driver leaves for the airport, so you are not installing anything in a car park with a tired toddler in your arms.
Why a minivan, not two taxis
A family of four with two suitcases, two cabin bags and a stroller does not fit comfortably in a sedan, and splitting the family across two taxis is the worst option: two fares, two drivers, two chances of getting lost. A private minivan carries the whole family, the stroller folded in the boot, the seats already in place, at one fixed price.
Strollers, cots and the rest
A folded stroller travels in the boot of any vehicle class. Travel cots, bicycles and other bulky items should be mentioned in the notes so that we assign a vehicle with enough space. There is no extra charge for a stroller.
Timing with children
Book the pick-up for your scheduled landing time and add a line in the notes if you expect to be slow: "two small children, we may need the full waiting time". At airports the free waiting time is 45 minutes from landing, which is usually enough even with a stroller and a bathroom stop. The driver follows the flight, so an early or late arrival is handled without a call from you.
On the way
If you need a stop, say for a pharmacy or a quick change, ask the driver. Short stops on the direct route are usually no problem; longer detours are quoted before the trip so that nobody is surprised.
Checklist for the booking notes
- Age, weight and height of each child.
- Stroller: yes or no, and whether it is a compact one.
- Number of suitcases and cabin bags.
- Any stop you already know you will need.
With those four lines, the car that meets you is the right car. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before pick-up, which matters when travelling with children: plans change, and the transfer should be the easy part.
